13-year-old Daniel leads a carefree life in the countryside: He has friends, enjoys success at school and has a good relationship with his grandmother, who looks after him. When his mother (Ingrid Caven) brings him to live with her in the town of Narbonne, the reception is sober and the relationship with her partner remains cold. To pay his way, Daniel has to leave school and get a job in a workshop. He experiences the reality of the adult world at an early age: the social hierarchy, the dreary working day. He attempts to find distraction in sexual adventures. In the final part of his autobiographical trilogy, Eustache shows the path from a "normal" childhood to marginality from a distance, unaffected and without anger. (bik)
